More about us

Not for Profit Group
All of these tales are based on authentic characters. We give you a glimpse of life inside the workhouse and how it felt to have to go there.
We aim to cover only our costs; any surplus will be given annually to charities such as John Eastwood Hospice, Beaumont House Trust and this year Emmaus Trust Newark.

Challenging common-held views
The workhouse: a place of refuge, hope or utter despair? We aim to challenge audiences’ concepts of the Victorian workhouse, providing not instant answers but, perhaps, thought-provoking questions. See what our customers think of us.

How far will we travel?
If your venue is within an hour’s travelling time from postcode NG25 there isn’t a problem. Even if the venue is further than this it’s worth enquiring, as especially during the summer months and/or for a daytime event, the distance may not be a problem.
We already have bookings this year for South Croxton, Hugglescote and Coalville, Mapplerly, Radcliffe on Trent, Coddington, Retford, Shireoaks, Keyworth, Cotgrave and Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

What you can expect.
The format and length of a session may be changed to your needs, though performances usually last for an hour and include 4 stories or 3 stories + songs. We offer themed tales (for example, at Christmas time), and many of our more humorous, lighter stories are suitable for children.
We will work closely with you to make sure we understand your needs and in return, appreciate feedback from you.
